The 6 Best Games to Check Out in January 2019

Games out in January 2019  !!!

2019 will bring us a whole host of new PC games, and maybe even a new you. Will you pick up and play a new MMO or 4X game this year? Might there finally be a battle royale mode that captures your imagination? Will Cyberpunk 2077 somehow come out? Anything could happen in 2019, but you can be certain will be a ton of new games, and you’ll find them on this list.

Tales of Vesperia: Definitive Edition
January 11 | Bandai Namco | Link | JRPG

It’s been 10 years since Vesperia graced our JRPG-loving eyes with a high-budget adventure, something the Tales series hasn’t had for a while. Aside from a prettier paint job, the new edition is coming with all the PS3 content that never released in the west. Bad news for longtime fans, though, the original cast (including Troy Baker) wasn’t asked to reprise their roles.

Resident Evil 2
January 25 | Capcom | Link| Survival horror

Between RE7 and the RE1 remaster, the aging zombie franchise has had a few good years. This full remake is adopting Resident Evil 4’s over-the-shoulder camera, and all the environments are 3D rather than pre-rendered. Leon and Claire now have totally unique campaigns, and everything is running in the RE7 engine, so get ready for some squishy mold, gore, and moldy gore.

Onimusha: Warlords
January 15 | Capcom | Steam | Action

Capcom may have an up-and-down record with PC ports, but this will be the first time the PS2 action classic was released on PC in the west. There’s the typical remake shopping list: New graphics, new music, an analog control scheme, and the ability to start on easy mode instead of dying a bunch. Even if it turns out just alright, it’s only $20.

Tropico 6
January 25 | Kalypso | Link | Action

El Presidente returns in the latest entry of the long-running island government management simulator, which lets you manage multiple islands at once, as well as steal monuments from other countries. Seems a little impolite, but hey, they sure make the place look nice.

At the Gates
January 25 | Conifer Games | Link | Strategy

This 4X project ran a Kickstarter all the way back in early 2013, and now it finally has a release date. You play a dark lord aiming to make the most of the dying Roman Empire by building up your civilization, taking care of your various clans and seeking out resources across the map. At the Gates comes from Civ 5 lead designer Jon Shafer—so there’s no doubting the talent involved

Doom Eternal
TBA | id Software | Link | FPS

Doom Eternal brings hell to Earth, a nice change of setting from 2016’s excellent reboot. Expect to fight twice as many demons in this instalment, using a brutal upgraded armory. This includes a new version of the Super Shotgun, which features a grapple-friendly ‘meat hook’ on the end, and hopefully a ton more ludicrous weapon mods.
